Tom Spithaler – Customer Support & Sales Manager

Tom came to Northwest Helicopters with over 25 years’ experience in the firearms manufacturing industry supporting law enforcement, military and government agencies worldwide. A United States Army 11B Infantry soldier, his Army career culminated after having returned as a Combat Veteran of Desert Storm where he served under the 18th Airborne Corp with the 82nd Airborne Division.

His experience in manufacturing procedures, production engineering, new product development, communications and marketing is a valuable asset to the team. Tom manages the Customer Support Team, and is also the contact point for marketing, social media and web development for both Northwest Helicopters and Mechanical Specialties. Tom enjoys being active with his local church, writing, photography, hiking and kayaking with his family, and has been a drummer all his life. Nick Skinner – Service Support Lead

Nick joined the Northwest Helicopters and Mechanical Specialties team in November 2015 as the Maintenance Coordinator and currently fills the role of Service Support Lead. His background includes 8+ years of customer service, working in both the automotive and aviation industry. Nick prides himself on efficient problem solving, a keen attention to detail, and ensuring that the customers’ needs are satisfied. In June 2015, Nick graduated from The Evergreen State College with his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration, Economics and Entrepreneurship.

When Nick isn’t in the office, he enjoys spending time outside hunting, fishing, camping, and being with his fiancé and their two dogs. He also loves spending time with family, watching movies, and playing/watching sports. Throughout the years, Nick has learned a great deal about the aviation industry and is eager to continue learning about this rapidly growing industry.

Kimberly Oberklaus – Service Support Associate

Kimberly joined Northwest Helicopters and Mechanical Specialties in 2016. Throughout the years her knowledge and expertise has grown tremendously. She began as an Administrative Assistant, then was hand-picked to be the Executive Assistant to the Director of Maintenance, and now serves as a Service Support Associate assisting customers and internal maintenance needs. In addition to her daily responsibilities, she has also been a key player in our Safety and Quality Systems. Kimberly has 5+ years of customer service experience, an ambitious personality with sharp attention to detail, and excellent interpersonal skills.

In her free time, Kimberly enjoys spending time outdoors, hiking, camping, competing in roller derby, and exploring the Pacific Northwest. She also loves spending time with her three children, family, and friends.

Ryan Brinton – Sales Support Lead

Ryan joined the Northwest Helicopters team in 2015 as the first full time sales position dedicated to aircraft spares sales and component maintenance. Ryan is a long time resident of Olympia, WA, attended North Thurston High School and later graduated from Washington State University with a Bachelors in Communication. After college, Ryan worked in retail for 7 years before accepting the sales position at Northwest. Ryan has always had an interest in aviation, specifically helicopters, and it shows in his keen eye for detail and exceptional service he provides to our customers.

In Ryan’s spare time, he enjoys spending time with his son, slalom waterskiing, relaxing at the lake, traveling and checking out local pubs, eateries and craft breweries.Ryan can be reached at

Katie Mortensen – Sales Support Associate

Katie’s journey with Northwest Helicopters and Mechanical Specialties started in March of 2019. Since then, she has progressed into her current position as a Sales Support Associate. Her background includes 5+ years of customer service experience which attributed to her keen organizational skills, attention to detail, problem solving, and operating smoothly under stressful situations. Quickly after joining the team, Katie graduated with an Associates of Arts from South Puget Sound Community College.

Outside of work, Katie enjoys volunteering in downtown Olympia serving food to the homeless, spending time with her family and friends, going on adventures, flying with her best friend, playing volleyball, singing, making people laugh, all things Disney, and basically anything that’s fun.

Katie loves learning about the aviation industry and can’t wait to see what the future holds.
